Abstract

Based on the methodology of strategizing by Academician V.L. Kvint, a study was conducted of trends in the further development of the Russian medical industry, taking into account global trends. A cross-country analysis of statistical characteristics and bibliometric indicators of scientific support for the industry was conducted. The study showed that the main trends in the development of the medical industry at the global level are associated with the introduction of digital technologies in devices, equipment, and the creation of new materials, while it was revealed that Russia occupies a modest place in the world space in terms of the intensity of scientific research aimed at the development of the medical industry.

The share of the Russian medical industry market in the global volume is comparable to the share of Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the world. At the same time, most of the market in Russia is provided by imported supplies, the production of its own equipment is heavily dependent on imports in terms of technology and raw materials. Almost half of the names of medical products and equipment are not produced in our country. At the same time, the increase in the production of medical products is proceeding at a steady pace, and export growth is outpacing import growth in dynamics, which indicates the prospects for the export direction of development of this industry in our country.

Taking into account the facts revealed in the work, in the context of achieving technological sovereignty of our country, the need for a qualitative strengthening of the scientific and innovative component of the process of creating new models of medical equipment and modernizing existing ones is shown.
